WAMED 2023 Events

We are delighted to bring you a variety of fabulous events this year. We are including some new types of events in a new venue this year, as well as your favourites from previous festivals. We are looking forward to seeing you all there!

Please note that if health restrictions require the cancellation of these events, refunds will be available.

THURSDAY

WELCOME EVENT
Thurs 1 June 2023 - 6pm - 8pm
Bar Orient, 39 High St, Fremantle
 

We are booking out a space at the Bar Orient on the Thursday night from 6pm so you can rock along and catch up with all those people you only ever see at festivals, meet some new faces, compare notes about which workshops you're excited about and have an early dinner before the Festival begins! Please book a free ticket through the WAMED Shop to secure your place.

FRIDAY

LEILAT GHAZAL - PART 1

7.30pm, Friday 2 June 2023.  

The Albion Hotel, 535 Stirling Hwy, Cottesloe.

 

Take a seat and enjoy the warm surrounds of the heritage-listed Queen Victoria Room and prepare to travel through a richly textured landscape of dance delights from the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, and Persia, with a twist of local flavour. Experience performances from soloists and troupes assembled from around Australia. Cultural, colourful, educational, and
beautiful; this is a night out that the whole family can enjoy.

The Albion onsite bar will be available before and during the show. Enjoy a delicious, pre-show meal from the Albion's dinner menu or nearby Fremantle eateries. 

Unallocated theatre seating.

Doors open 7pm for a 7.30pm start. 120 mins with a short intermission.

Tickets: $45 adults and $15 kids (6-12yrs) and 5yrs and under - free.

SATURDAY

LEILAT GHAZAL PART 2 Featuring Kaouther Ben Amor

Join us for Part 2 of Leilat Ghazal, featuring stunning performances from our international guest artist, Kaouther Ben Amor and amazing troupes and soloists from all over Australia. SUNDAY

RAQS CAFE

6.30pm, Sunday 4 June 2023.

The Navy Club, 64 High St, Fremantle.

Wind down from a truly fabulous festival with some scrumptious food, sprinkled with a few delectable performances and a live interview with our international star, Kaouther Ben Amor! 

Order dinner and drinks at the Navy Club bar and settle in for a fabulous night!

Email your questions to WAMEDFestival@gmail.com. All the things you wanted to know but never had the chance to ask!

Then, let your hair down and shake it all out after a huge weekend of dance. Put some of your new techniques to use, or for you non-dancers - give it a go on the dance floor!

Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start. DJ Phat Gaffah from 7.30pm.

MONDAY

THE WAMED GRANDE BAZAAR

Monday 5 June 2023.

Fremantle Town Hall.

11am - 3pm.

Celebrate the end of another fabulous WAMED festival with a day of shopping for shiny things and fabulous performances on the main stage! Come to shop, stay to watch!

Market stalls selling jewellery, costumes, pamper products, craft materials and more!

Stalls include:

The Costume Hoarders, Andrea and Liz have spring cleaned. They have a selection of unused, gently used and project costumes, props and components for sale from their wardrobes and from sundry others. Stop by and indulge your inner magpie!

Wendy from Bespoke Bindis is here from Adelaide with a range of her heavenly custom-made bindis! These pack a punch and she also does custom orders!

Carina's Kitchen specialises in Vegan Baked desserts. We will be selling cinnamon scrolls, brownies, donuts and slices and cakes. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a range of delicious vegan desserts!

Fragrant Candles by MelCheck out Mel's page and stock up at the WAMED Bazaar!

Urban Beauty will be at the Bazaar selling a selected collection of jewellery and clothes for women. Costume jewellery and more! See more of their range here.

Valerie's Costume Cupboard is having a stall as one of the gorgeous dancers selling costumes and accessories! Swing past and pick up a treasure!!

Recycled Reticules will be the 2023 Grande Bazaar with handmade handbags, backpacks and hats all made from recycled materials. 

Willow from Dream-Weavings will be joining us at the Grand Bazaar again this year with a selection of her crystals and jewellery.

Jane from Jane of the Wild Urban Wardrobe is bringing clothing as a result of decluttering a mere fraction of her wildly eclectic wardrobe with a few bellydance pieces in the mix.  

Jane from End of the Rainbow will be there, stocking crystal macrame and dreamcatchers, crystal jewellery, ink painted pots.

Vanessa from H & H Fragrances is a stockist of FM Worlds Designer Inspired Perfumes and Perfumed Products. Made from Real parfum oils, our products contain 20-30% oils which is more than some of the big designers.

We aim to bring you amazing products, at a fraction of the cost. Encouraging you to Switch and Save, because at the end of the day……you don’t wear the bottle. Sniff Vanessa out at the Grande Bazaar on Monday the 7th of June, and see more about her here.

Lush Baubles creates unique jewellery pieces using recycled precious metal wires, ethically sourced gemstone with reworked vintage, antique & salvaged items. Grab a one-of-a-kind treasure! 

The Vintage Doll is a collective boutique specialising in thrifting hunting and sourcing spectacular beautiful antiques and vintage treasures form all over the world. Antique lamps , French brocante unique finds , beautiful old garden art and home decor French Provincial interiors , shabby chic and boho soft furnishings , Parisienne gold ornate frames , gilded Louis home interiors small petite furniture pieces like occasional statement chairs and wot not occasional tables, antique and vintage jewellery and accessories.

Larry Lazza The Laundry Lad will be there with a range of eco laundry scenting products made by an extraordinary young man. Read more about his story here.

Eucalypt Remedial Massage will be there to pander to tired dancers and sore shoulders.

Face Painting with Bec will be there to entertain the kiddies and adorn the big kids too!

The stage will be packed with a huge program of dancers to inspire and entertain you and the whole family. A day jampacked with bargains, unusual items, colour, music and more!
