WAMED FESTIVAL 2012 ANNOUNCING OUR INTERNATIONAL SPECIAL GUEST
**RANYA RENEE OF NEW YORK**

WAMED Festival 2012:  Alchemy
The theme of "Alchemy" evokes the unique ways we each express ourselves through dance.  When we dance we bring together many elements - our body, our skill, our imagination, our talents, our limitations, what we've learned, our life experience, our aspirations, our beliefs, our interests and our very soul.

In keeping with this theme we are pleased and excited
to announce our international special guest:
Ranya Renee

Based in New York, the talented and world renowned  Ranya Renee has taught and performed in many countries across Europe, Tunisia, Israel, Honduras, Japan as well as Canada and the US. With her expertise in holistic Egyptian-style dance, theatrical coaching and energy work as well as her training in classical and colloquial Arabic language, singing and music she is a sought after presenter and is earning rave reviews from bellydancers across the globe for her instructional DVD's.  Her unique blend of performance skills, theatrical experience and bodywork techniques will appeal to dancers across many genres

Ranya will teach and perform for the first time in Australia, exclusive to WAMED Festival in Perth 1 - 4 June 2012.

Ranya, fluent in seven different languages, has a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Theatre and Linguistics from Yale University. After starting her performing career as a young actress she has been active in the Middle East since 1990 researching and producing concerts and workshops featuring top Arabic musicians.

A protegee of the great Yousry Sharif, Ranya has studied with many of the great Egyptian masters and has pioneered dance specific, performance-orientated breathing philosophy and methodology. Her paper "Sharing the Air: On the Integration of Breathing Practice" was selected for presentation at the second International Conference on Middle Eastern Dance in California in May 2001.

An innovative choregrapher Ranya is always focused on staying open to new inspiration and challenges. Her instruction focuses on healthy posture, breathwork and muscular technique combined with melodic and rhythmic interpretation and creative performance skills.

With her extensive language, theatre, teaching and performance skills combined with her emphasis on healthy use of the body and breath, our special guest Ranya is a shining example of the diverse mix that we all bring to our dance.

In 2012 we invite you to share the magic and dance who you are!
